Unlock the Benefits of Dental Sealants for a Bright Smile
Dental sealants are thin resin (or plastic) coatings designed to coat teeth and prevent decay. Our dentist at North Park, San Diego, CA, can increase tooth protection while enhancing the appearance of your smile. Dr. Diaz is supported by a skilled team who make the sealant application process simple.
According to the CDC, around 26% of adults between the ages of 20 and 44 have tooth decay. The issues surrounding decay are a big concern, but there are preventive measures available.
Whether you need personal or family dental care, understanding the advantages of sealants is helpful. North Park Smiles, of San Diego, CA, offers unique dental services to ensure you love your smile. Our team is dedicated to providing premium care with innovative tech and solutions that defend against decay.
What Are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are thin, but they offer a lot of protection as unique coatings. Dental sealants are applied to chewing surfaces, most often molars, to prevent tooth decay.
Molars are more likely to have deep pits and grooves on the exterior surface. These areas can be difficult to clean and increase the risk of cavities. Dental sealants primarily act as a barrier, helping protect enamel from acid and plaque.
Applying sealants is a quick and painless process that can be done during a routine visit to your dentist in San Diego. Take a closer look at how we tackle dental sealants at North Park Smiles!
Benefits of Dental Sealants
The benefits of dental sealants reach beyond cavity prevention and improve overall oral health. Our team at North Park Smiles approaches each patient with care and kindness, helping relieve any anxiety.
Here are some reasons to consider dental sealants, completed by our team:
- Reduce the risk of decay
- Quick application process
- Cost-effective measure when compared to other dental services (fillings & restorative solutions)
- Long-lasting protection
The ADA found that nearly 75% of adults fear dental checkups and often delay treatment. This preventative solution can offer peace of mind since it's another barrier against plaque!
Who Should Consider Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are especially beneficial for children, but adults can also benefit from sealants. If you or your child are prone to cavities, it may be time to discuss sealants with your dentist.
If you're considering sealants, here is a closer look at the application process:
- Tooth cleaning
- Application of an acid solution to prep the surface
- Sealent gets painted onto the grooves
- A special light hardens the sealant
Once completed, the sealants create a smooth surface that's easy to clean and maintain. Your dentist in San Diego can monitor their condition and reapply if needed.
